Today, during bible study in the cell meeting, the short articles or stories (don't know what to call it), is basically on the negatives about being in an enclave. Enclave is apparently from the French word which means enclose or sealed off. So, when a group of people is said to belong to an enclave, it means that they are "exclusive"?
So, what's so negative about being in an enclave? Well, you actually shut off people who are of different status or different lifestyle than yourself. In honesty, everyone has been or is still very much a part of this. After all, how many people would actually go all out to include someone very different in their social circle? Maybe one out of every 10 people? Anyhow, the thing is there has always been this tendency that when someone share similar traits or interests, we are more likely to gel with them and the communication is almost instantaneous, without much effort at all. On the other hand, when the other person turn out to be quite different from the "type" we are used to, we somehow become less welcome towards them (in our body language).
Whatever it is, I usually try to include other people, even if they are different, although the chances of failure is high as some people whom I mixed with could sometimes be quite unwelcoming, especially towards those who are different. But I guess the most important thing is that I've tried my best. Then again, there is still this tendency that birds of a feather flock together, because you just have more to talk to one another. But, I think we should at all times be available to help those in need, even if we are not "close" to them, and by doing so, we would be more open and not stay in our enclave.
